Yeah, I was really upset when Kishimoto wrote this because as I said earlier, this was an obvious retcon. He would talk with Orochimaru at times about his father and being saved on the battlefield in a non-sarcastic way, which shows that was Kishimoto's original intention. I think I would be able to forgive this if the end result weren't so dumb.
