I was listening to a podcast today about a landscaper who was driving along the highway in LA when he noticed something wrong: There were about twenty-five construction men in uniform doing landscaping themselves on the side of the road, kinda like what they do on the divide on Park Avenue. Except this was at 19:00 in an area that doesn't usually receive such attention. Immediately the landscaper knew what the reality was: This wasn't a construction crew, they were thieves stealing the trees that had grown naturally in that spot. Specifically palm trees, which usually cost about $20K each. When he approached them, the guys all ran off, and the gentleman discovered from nearby residents that these men had already taken about six already in the past three days.
For me it's amazing they nearly managed to get away with that, but you always hear if you act natural you'll fit right in. Everyone must've just looked at their quasi-official attire and assumed it was legit until a professionally-trained eye could see the discrepancies. It makes you wonder what else is happening in front of your face and you don't realize it.
